This private tour is perfect for travelers who want to explore Machu Picchu in a single day. Designed for efficiency and comfort, it ensures a seamless journey from Cusco to the heart of the Incan citadel. You will enjoy breathtaking landscapes, a scenic train ride, and a guided tour of one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sites.

Early Morning Departure from Cusco

Your adventure begins early in the morning when our guide and driver pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. We then take a two-hour drive to the Ollantaytambo train station. Along the way, you will admire the stunning landscapes of the Sacred Valley, with its terraced fields, traditional villages, and towering mountains.

Train Ride Through the Urubamba Valley

In Ollantaytambo, we board a Vistadome or Expedition train for a scenic journey along the Urubamba River. The train ride offers spectacular views of granite mountains covered in lush vegetation. You will see orchids, bromeliads, and native trees that thrive in this cloud forest ecosystem.

Arrival in Aguas Calientes and Ascent to Machu Picchu

Upon reaching Aguas Calientes, we take a short bus ride up to Machu Picchu. Your guided tour begins with a panoramic view from the high agricultural terraces, perfect for photos. You will then explore key sites such as the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana stone, and the Main Plaza.

Immerse Yourself in the Mystical Atmosphere

As you walk through the ancient stone pathways of Machu Picchu, you will feel the energy and mystery that surrounds this sacred site. Your guide will share fascinating stories about Incan engineering, spirituality, and daily life. With every step, you will uncover the hidden secrets of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, making your visit even more meaningful.

Return Journey to Cusco

After the guided tour, we return to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Later, we take the train back to Ollantaytambo, where private transportation will be waiting to bring you back to Cusco. This tour offers an unforgettable experience, combining history, nature, and culture in just one day.

  • If you are interested, we can organize a hike for you (as long as permits are available for your specific date) to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain.
  • These walks take approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete, but if this is the case, we will have to start the trip earlier in Cusco around 3:00 a.m. or 4:00 a.m. because the permits are only for morning walks.

Include

  • A professional English-speaking guide will accompany you.
  • Private transportation will take you to your destination.
  • You will receive a round-trip train ticket on the Vistadome or Expedition train (Peru Rail).

Recommendation

  • Book in Advance – Train and entrance tickets to Machu Picchu sell out quickly. Reserve your spot at least a few weeks in advance.
  • Pack Light – Bring only essentials, as large bags are not allowed inside Machu Picchu. A small backpack with water, snacks, sunscreen, and a rain jacket is ideal.
  • Dress in Layers – The weather changes quickly in the Andes, so wear breathable clothing and bring a light jacket. Comfortable walking shoes are a must.
  • Bring Your Passport – It’s required for entry to Machu Picchu, and you can get a special stamp as a souvenir.
  • Prepare for Early Wake-Up – The tour starts very early, so get a good night's rest the day before.

Is this trip right for you?

  • This trip visits places at high altitudes, and as a result, some people may experience altitude sickness regardless of age or physical condition. Please refer to the Medical and Health Information section of the Essential Trip Information for more details.
  • This journey involves extensive walking to visit the sites, and if you choose to trek the Inca Trail or the Quarry Trail, you will face strenuous hikes. We recommend this trip for those with a good level of fitness. It is important to bring comfortable footwear suitable for hiking. See the “Packing” section of the Essential Trip Information for more details.
  • For those trekking the Inca Trail or the Quarry Trail, accommodation will be in campsites with basic facilities. Undoubtedly, this experience is not just about reaching the final destination (Machu Picchu) but about the incredible journey itself.
  • According to Machu Picchu’s visiting regulations, all visitors must follow a pre-determined route within the site in a single direction. Once the guided tour begins, exiting and re-entering the site is not permitted. After the guided visit concludes, visitors must leave the site, and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not allowed. Please refer to the Itinerary for more details.
  • Travelers who choose different ways to reach Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail, or Train) will not follow the same routes within the site. This means that you may not be able to take photos together overlooking Machu Picchu, whether traveling on the same booking or separate bookings.
