DETAILED ITINERARY:

DAY 01: ARRIVE TO AREQUIPA AND CITY TOUR

Arrive to Arequipa with free time in the morning. In the afternoon (1:30PM) we will have a guided tour of the city. We will first head towards the Yanahuara lookout, then we will visit the San Camilo market, and later will visit the Cathedral. We will finish our excursion visiting the Santa Catalina museum, a arquitectonic jewel in the city of Arequipa.

DAY 02: AREQUIPA – CHIVAY

We will leave at 7:30AM from Arequipa, heading 160 km towards the town of Chivay, capital of the Caylloma province. Along the way we will be able to see the Misti, Chachani and Pichupichu volcanoes as well as pass through the National Reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blance where we will observe vicuñas (the Americas most important camelid) in their natural habitat. Here we will be at an altitude of approxiamtely 4,000 meters above sea level.

We will arrive to Alto Sumbay, an Andean community located across from the Reserve. It is interesting to see the rock formations here as well as the back views of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes. At this point we can have a coca tea or coffee in order to combat any ill effect of the altitude at a local restaurant where bathrooms will be readily available.

We will continue on our journey and begin to find llamas and alpacas in their natural habitat as well as  come upon lakes with local birds before arriving at our highest point, Pata Pampa (Pata = Alto, Pampa = Tierra) located at 4910 meters. From here we will be able to see the volcanoes Ampato, Sabancaya, Huaica Huaica, and Mismi (the starting point of the world’s largest river: the Amazon River) as well as the Chila Mountain Range. We will then descend to Chivay (3652 m), the capital of the Caylloma Province, and we will begin to see the valley below. Once in Chivay we we have lunch (not included) and will head to our hotel in order to get checked in. We will be able to rest and will then head to the hot springs or thermal baths (entrance and towels not included). Finisihng our visit, and finishing our day, we will head back to our hotel to rest. (Dinner not included)

DAY 03: CHIVAY – CRUZ DEL CONDOR – AREQUIPA

Meals Included: 01 Breakfast

After enjoying an early breakfast we will head towards the Cruz del Condor lookout. Along the way we will be able to observe the canyon’s depth and then, if the weather is favorable, we will be able to get some great photographs of the majestic flight of the condor.

After a reasonable amount of time we will return to our transportation and drive to Chivay where we will visitt the traditional town of Pinchollo and the Antahuilque lookout along the way. Here we will be able to see marvelous pre-Inca terraces with nearly 1500 years of antiquity. We will also have another stop in Choquetico where we will be able to see the hanging tombs and a mock litho with a drawing on the terraces that we will see across the way. In addition, we will have a brief visit to the town of Maca, of which suffered a terrible earthquake in 1991, and the church of the town of Yanque, considered to be one of the most beautiful of the valley. We will arrive to Chivay for lunch (not included) and will head back to Arequipa where our transportation will leave us in our hotel.

DAY 04: TRANSFER HOTEL-AIRPORT OR TRASNFER AREQUIPA-PUNO

Transfer to the city of Puno or transfer hotel-Arequipa airport for your domestic flight from Arequipa – Lima.
